A Letter from Our Founder
A Letter from Our Founder,
As a human-being, I am devastated by the events leading up to the BLM protests happening around the world. As a Black woman or color, I am immensely hurt by the racist actions taken by police officers across this country.
The love and passion I have for black and brown communities ignited the fire inside of me to organize and create this community.
My message for you today is to channel your energy to do something meaningful. That looks differently for all of us. For me, it's building community and creating lesson plans to teach Diversity and Inclusion.
For you, maybe it looks like:
βπ½ Volunteering your time to mentor others
π Organizing a protest or solidarity event
βοΈ Reaching out to those that are experiencing racism and injustice first-hand
ππΏ Connecting with your personal faith to pray for others
ποΈ Donating to charities that support initiatives you believe in
π² Supporting and promoting black-owned businesses and products
π£οΈ Speaking up when you witness prejudice, discriminatory practices, racist ideologies, hate crimes, micro- aggressions, and abuse of power
π³οΈ A reminder that today is big Election Day - you can take action by voting
For our students who have taken our Diversity and Inclusion lesson, and learned about Harroβs Cycle of Socialization, this is a great time to continue working on your social impact projects.
With all of this going on, in addition to the disproportionate effect that COVID-19 has had on black communities, we must come together to create a better future for us and for generations to come.
With love,
Sharae Gibbs
