The effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic are undeniable.

Given the current public health crisis and the temporary shutdown of non-essential businesses across various U.S. states, 👛securing the bag has never been more of a top priority.

With the uncertainty around job employment during this time, it is now more important than ever to build technical skills that are essential to business.

Technical skills include:

  • How to Build a CMS Website (Wordpress, Squarespace, etc.)...

  • UX/UI/ Product Design and Management

  • Basic HTML and CSS Coding. ...

  • Google Analytics. ...

  • Email Marketing. ...

  • Social Media Communication. ...

  • SEO. ...

  • Programming. Keep in mind programming skills are not just reserved for developers.

This week, I received numerous emails (similar to the one below) from graduate students and seniors asking for my advice.

Letter from a Recent Graduate

To my graduating seniors interested in exploring careers in UX, my advice is to build a solid UX portfolio with real case-study examples to increase your chances of attaining a UX role or internship.

In 2019, our cohort of students had the opportunity to design an iOS app with the founder of Kintsugi, Grace Chang. Kintsugi leverages Artificial Intelligence to unearth new insights about you. Kintsugi promotes clinically-proven techniques to tackle daily stress, anxiety, and depression. The latest Kintsugi iOS app includes features, UI, navigation, and branding elements that align with the work of our student final prototypes and presentations.

The second piece of advice that I have taken in my own career, is to choose to work with companies that have gone through a recession or two. Companies that continue to build universal products and services that people need.
