Sharae Gibbs

👋 Hey friend! My name is Sharae Gibbs and I’m the Founder & CEO of She Designs! I’m also an Interaction Designer at Google with over 10 years of experience in UX Research & Design. My mission is to empower women of color by providing career development, mentorship, training, and hands-on experience.

In this course, I share my design tips and tricks with students to help them craft an amazing UX portfolio. Throughout the program, I provide students with direct feedback on their work and continuously challenge them to embrace our course mindsets. In my free time, I enjoy walking my dogs (Bella and Pharoah), eating delicious meals with my wife and lifetime partner, and spending time with family and friends.

In 2012, I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art & Design. In 2013, I began working as a Senior Design Consultant for IBM in New York. I have worked with some of the best design teams, from IBM and Citibank, to NBC and A Hundred Years. Through these experiences, I designed mobile apps, websites, and wearable technology.

In 2015, I moved to the Bay Area in California to work as a User Experience Designer for Comcast Silicon Valley Innovation Center. While working at Comcast, I witnessed firsthand the lack of diversity and representation of women at tech companies in Silicon Valley. This experience inspired me to create The Women of Color UX Design Course ©.

I create community and impact that goes beyond The Women of Color UX Design Course ©. In 2019, I was invited to speak on a panel at Google for International Women’s Day. The focus of the “Rise Up, Reach Back” panel was to highlight women who have led incredible initiatives and created space for other women to succeed.

I am passionate about educating women of color and helping them to develop confidence at a young age. In 2019, I was selected to participate in Innovation Next, a grant program led by Power to Decide and IDEO to create a unique, technology-based innovation to decrease teen pregnancy.
